Dubai Silicon Oasis Signs MOU with Dubai Civil Defence

Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Civil Defence to exchange expertise and apply best practices in the field of smart cities.

The MoU was signed by Engineer Muammar Khaled Al Katheeri, Executive Vice President – Engineering Management, DSOA and Colonel Salim Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Assistant Director General of the Dubai Civil Defence for Prevention and Protection. The agreement is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai to transform the emirate into a smart city and reinforce its global status.
Signed on the side-lines of Intersec Dubai 2015, the agreement will ensure the installation of intelligent systems at DSO buildings and townhouses, as well as 24x7 alert systems, smart self-inspection system and console application for smart lighting.
As part of the agreement, the DSOA fully designed and assembled smart lamp post will be installed at DSO to allow members of the public to report emergencies with the click of a button. The lamp posts will not only provide light but also allow the public to connect to the command and control room directly and provide 24/7 live video footage to the operation room they are linked to.
The MoU further mandates DSO and DCD to exchange updates on smart cities, allow mutual access to international applications, and collaboratively conceptualize innovative solutions. Towards this priority, a joint committee will be established to follow up on the implementation of the memorandum.
Engineer Muammar Khaled Al Katheeri, said: "The aim of our collaboration with the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Dubai falls within the framework of cooperation between various government entities in the emirate, to coordinate and unify efforts in the field of smart cities. In the past, we have launched several initiatives such as the Silicon Park Project and the provision of free Wi-Fi access at DSO. We are confident this MOU will contribute to vision of the country’s leadership to transform Dubai into a smart city.”
Colonel Salim Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Assistant Director – General of the Dubai Civil Defence for Prevention and Protection, said: “The General Directorate of Civil Defense in Dubai partners with government departments to provide the public with smart services through applications such as smart homes, smart tests for technicians and engineers, monitoring system for fire-protection equipment in smart buildings, IT-enabled buildings readers and drones. We are confident the MoU will intensify our efforts in serving the community.”
A wholly-owned entity of the government of Dubai, DSO operates as a free zone technology park for large enterprises, medium and small companies looking to set up their offices in Dubai.
